The good folks over at the Fwak! Animation Blog (Makers of the Mucha Lucha! show on Cartoon Network) announced that they will be hosting a screening of their feature length animated movie, Los Campeones de la Lucha Libre in Los Angeles this February.
If you're going to be in the area, it will definitely be worth checking out. El Maska is sad to say that he missed the premiere they held in Mexico City back in October. ¡Que triste!
From their annoucement:
"To our Los Angeles friends, here's a date to save. On February 5th, 2009 (El Santo's birthday!) our movie Los Campeones De La Lucha Libre will be screening for one night only at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. If you missed our Private screening at the Vista Theater in July, here's your chance to see it on the big screen! We will post more details closer to the date."

Over at the ESPNdeportes.com Lucha Libre Blog, Ardrian Lopez Real has an interesting post on the importance of the mask in mexican professional wrestling.
From the Post:
"Sin duda alguna, un elemento importante en la lucha libre contemporánea es que la mayoría de los luchadores utilizan una máscara, con la cual los gladiadores dan un toque de magia y emoción a este deporte, e incluso, por qué no decirlo, los convierte en una especie de "súper héroe" al tener una vida pública y una identidad secreta muchas veces desconocida para el aficionado."
Hat tip to The Cubs Fan for bringing it to El Maska's attention that Lucha Libre content actually exists on the ESPN media empire, albeit on the ESPNdeportes site. We'll take it. The Cubs Fan is as puzzled as much as El Maska as to why the blog contains no RSS feed, like our Lucha Libre Blog which you can subscribe to here: Maska Lucha Blog Feed.

Interesting article on a promotor in San Jose, CA running storyline with the stars of Lucha Libre versus 'Border Patrol' agents. What do you think? Inappropriate, funny stuff or just great promotion? Check out the video for a good interview with Octagoncito.
From the Article:
Mexicans love a good fight, or at least seeing one.
And when it reflects a social reality, like pitting them against the hated U.S. Border Patrol, the seats are going to be sold out.
Gabriel Ramirez, owner and founder of the independent wrestling promotion Pro Wrestling Revolution has taken advantage of this, presenting as his most popular attraction a wrestling match between Mexican legends of lucha libre and American wrestlers who are dressed as Border Patrol agents.
